RPR Christmas Awards Party 2019

Hope you are all well and conquering the festive party season.

Tonight is the night you have all been waiting for, our annual RPR Christmas Awards Party! The doors open at 7pm at the Hare and Hounds in Sheen(just off Mortlake station). It’s been another marvellous season with many big accomplishments for members and the club as a whole. This is your chance to celebrate the past year, and also look forward to what 2020 will bring!

We are lucky enough to have Jamie helping myself as a guest award announcer, a big thanks to Jamie for this and his hard work this year welcoming new member and leading rides. The awards themselves should be announced at 9pm so please ensure you are there by then if you are nominated. These include most improved Rouleur, Rider of the year, Clubperson of the year, and a few extras. Congratulations to ALL those nominated and a big thanks to everyone who voted in our online poll.

As most of you know I hate doing long speeches, so here is my chance to thank you all for making 2019 such a good year. I would like to thank a few people especially.

The organisers. Everyone on the organisers group who have come to our monthly committee meetings this year. This is the team behind the team guys, without them assisting myself and giving up their time the club wouldn’t exist. A big thank you.

The ride leaders who volunteer to take a group every week on our club rides, without you volunteering each week then the rides simply couldn’t take place, so thank you.

David Wong for his amazing work plotting all our Lands End to John O Groats routes this year, stepping in to help organise the Red Bull Time laps event, and his AMAZING video highlights of the big rides. I am already looking forward to our 2019 Highlights Montage video, coming in January as he is still trawling through the LEJOG archives. 🙂 A big thanks to David!

The old guard. This being our 5th Xmas Party, we have had many great members come and go during that time, all giving their all helping to organise events. Too many to mention, but hopefully we will see some of them tonight to reminisce.

The new batch! 🙂  So this year we have had a big influx of new members during the summer. To me the pub after the club ride is a good indicator of where we are at, with many members now stopping by for a quick drink afterwards, and some for more than their respective cycling coaches might possibly recommend. Personally I think this is where the real bonds form between members and is my favourite part of the ride. Again too many to mention, thanks to everyone for coming in and making a great impression on our club.

Michael Ohashi. A special mention has to go to Michael for stepping up this year helping myself with the organising of the club. Michael has been invaluable as an organiser and a friendly face welcoming new members to rides, events, and socials, as well as organising our yearly Mallorca312 trips. He has put in a huge amount of time this year organising, especially when I haven’t always been around. So a huge thanks to him, CHAPEAU!

And finally a big thanks to everyone for supporting the club, be it by wearing club kit, sharig on social media, coming to our rides and socials, posting events, encouraging new members along, and generally being a great bunch! This really is what makes our club so special. So as a thank you, the club will be supplying a FREE first drink tonight at the Xmas Party to members. Lets P.A.R.T.Y.

Dont forget your Secret Santa gift if you want to take part, likely 10pm(ish) we will hand out the prezzies.

Thanks to everyone for making 2019 such a great year!

Ride safe!

Matt

  1. What’s not to like. Very grateful to everyone for all the care and effort.

A memorable highlight was following Michael O’ strangely alluring reindeer costume last weekend. Outstanding – still mad

    See you later

    All best
